Submission Guidelines:
The goal of Creative Scientists is to mesh scientific work with creative and artistic endeavor, improving scientific communication and encouraging creative thinking in science.

-
Submissions may come from undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff at California State University, Monterey Bay. Persons submitting do not need to be in STEM majors or fields, the work itself just has to be related to science.
-
The definition of science related is broad, it can be about your experiences as a scientist, broader human implications, environmental messages, your research projects, fun things you learn in class, scientific fantasy like anatomical drawings of imagined creatures, etc.
-
Work may be in any form as long as the content is related to science. This includes, but is not limited to, drawn or painted art, photography, poetry, video, short writing, essays, slides, creative note pages, code, etc.
-
There is no technical skill level required to submit, it just has to be a creative work related to science that you are excited to share with the world. Did you snap a quick photo of a cool bug you found? That counts!
-
While video/animated/audio work is accepted, these materials may not be eligible for physical print and instead will remain digital exclusives.
-
Work that originated as assignments is allowed, but the grading period for the assignment must have passed and any reference to the specific class it was for must be removed. This is to avoid your work being plagiarized.
-
While Creative Scientists accepts almost all work, work that promotes discrimination (racist, sexist, ablist, trans or homophobic, etc.) and work that promotes scientific disinformation (antivax works, works that promote conspiracy theories, works with obviously and maliciously false information, etc.) will not be accepted.
-
If your work relies on another outside piece of work (for example, if you submit a slide and it has clipart from another source) you will be asked to cite it.

For visual work, please submit your work as an image file (.jpg, .png, etc), make sure that your work is of high enough resolution that it is legible (300 dpi is typical). We will reach out to you if there is a problem.
